Bringing Ritual to Your Self-Care

Bringing Ritual to Your Self-Care

Ritual is important to us.

A ritual is a repeated sequence or activity, that each time you do it, adds more energy to the pattern and desired outcome.

It is different from ceremony, as ceremony tends to be more unique, and a one off event.

One of the most important aspects of any ritual is that it reminds us that we are all connected, it acts as a way to connect your spiritual world, with your physical world.

Rituals allow us the time and space to gather our thoughts and give us a new perspective on our lives.

Ritual helps you to slow down and become conscious, so that you can fully embrace an experience. It can help you to gently move through any feelings or change, instead of feeling that you want to avoid them and run away from them.

Often ritual can be elaborate, planned and complex, but I want you to focus on the importance of personal ritual. The ritual you do just for yourself, to celebrate, to find meaning or to connect to a deeper sense of self. This can be planned, but is often spontaneous, depending on your needs, and the location you find yourself in.

The truth is every day, you already perform rituals, many of them are a kind of ‘unconscious’ ritual – these are repeated rituals that you do when you get up, get washed, dressed, brush your teeth, relax etc. You’ve done them so often, you don’t have to think about them and can enter an almost meditative like state.

It’s also possible to have ‘bad habit’ rituals too, like smoking, over eating or eating too fast, or responding negatively to certain situations/people. By adding your conscious awareness to these ‘bad habit’ rituals, it’s possible to transform your experience of them and make them a more conscious experience, with more meaning.

Giving everyday activities a sense of ritual, brings your awareness to your activities, so that you become more present and connected to daily life.

Bringing a sense of ritual to your self-care makes it feel like a sacred act.

It affirms the importance of prioritising you and your needs.

It helps you to honour yourself, your body, mind and soul.
