The Waning Moon – Emotional Self-Care

THE WANING MOON

The Waning Moon - Contemplation

Witchy Super Powers: Reflection and Evaluation

During this phase of the moon cycle it’s time to release anything that no longer serves you.

Before you begin to slow down and sink into your intuition and the darkness of the new moon, it’s time to identify any unwanted behaviours, blocks, limitations, or bad habits that have surfaced.

Now is the perfect time to evaluate where you are, and where you are going, and to release anything that you have outgrown, or no longer aligns with you.

The SHEro’s Journey – The Return

You achieved what you set out to achieve, it’s now time to begin your journey back home.

Home to your ordinary world.

Although the ordinary world remains unchanged, you return to it knowing that you have changed and may wonder how you will fit back in.

There may be more challenges to face as you re-integrate your new knowledge, with what you knew before.

Waning Moon: Emotional Self Care

As your energy begins to dip, as we approach the New Moon it’s time to address your emotions, to honour them and give them a voice.

Think PMT/PMS…

During this moon phase you become more discerning, things that don’t align with your true self are highlighted and can piss you off.

This moon phase is all about honouring your emotions.

How can you give a voice to your emotions?

Here’s a couple of ideas you could try:

  • Make the Space
  • Fully express your emotions to a trusted friend of professional. Let it all come out – the good, the bad, the ugly, the repressed.
  • Let it all out and feel the space and lightness that you create.
  • Fill The Space with the Good Stuff
  • Affirm your gratitude for everything that’s going well in your life, for your skills, insights, friends and family. Think about the things you can be grateful for in all areas of your life.
  • Feel your emotional self being witnessed and nourished.

Other ways you can look after your emotional self include:

  • Laugh
  • Cry
  • Tell yourself, or some-one else that you love them
  • Flirt
  • Cuddle, in a non-sexual way
  • Buy yourself a gift
  • Say Affirmations
  • Watch a film that makes you laugh (or cry)
  • Spend time on an activity that you’re passionate about
Advice for Your Emotional-Self

During this stage of the moon phase you start to notice what’s out of alignment and what needs to change.

You can feel more critical as you become aware of what no longer works for you.

This is a time to focus on you, what you really want, what needs refining and changing and what you’re ready to release.

This is a time to honour changes that need to be made.

And to honour the sense of loss that comes when you let go of things that no longer serve us or aren’t aligned with us, even when you know it’s needed and the right thing to do.

Waning Moon Ritual

You will need:

  • Leaves and flowers, or
  • Paper and colouring pencils

Step 1. Clear your energy

Imagine standing under a silver waterfall and allow all negative energies to be washed away.

Step 2. Create a sacred space

Find a quiet place to sit, declutter and clean, you might like to place crystals or other special items around you, or cleanse the room with some incense.

Step 3. Become present

Become fully present in your body.

Become aware of every part of your body.

Bring awareness to your breathing.

Step 4. Connect to what you are ready to release

Spend some time focussing on what you are ready to release from your life; fears, beliefs, patterns, people, things.

Step 5. Create a mandala or picture

As you think about what you are ready to release, create a flower mandala with leaves and flowers that you have found in nature.

Or

Draw a picture that represents what you are ready to release (no artistic skills required).

Step 6. Mindfully destroy your creation.

Now destroy what you have created, knowing that as you do, you symbolically release what you are ready to let go of.

Step 7. Assimilate

Sit in silence for a while and see if any inspiration comes. You may even want to journal around your thoughts.
