Example 1: Map for Change

This Map has been created for when you know you need to make some changes in your life, but you’re not sure where to start and you want to explore the possibilities open to you.

Review: This area shows you what needs to be reviewed before you can make your changes, as it might not be as it seems. This area needs to be looked at again to make sure everything is in order and as you expect.

Release: These are the things that you need to release in order for you to move on and make the changes you want, or that are necessary.

Outcome: This is the possible outcome, if you go ahead and make the changes you want or need.

Do Differently: This is what you need to do differently in order for you to be able to make the changes you desire.

Commit: This is what you need to commit fully to. Not just think about, but truly commit to.

First Steps: These are the first steps you need to take in order to build the momentum to bring the change you want.

Initial Thoughts:

Looking from a ‘wide’ perspective first, I noticed two main things.

  • ‘First Steps’ and ‘Commit’ are empty.
  • And the Key is right in the centre of the map.

One interpretation of this could be that the Key of the change is still not clear, so it’s not a time to commit to any action.

Looking Closer:

The Key and ‘Silence’ in the Centre of the Map – It’s still a time to get clear on what you really want. To spend time in ‘silence’ and review what you really want, as it might not be what you first thought.

‘Silence’ and the Diamond in the Review section – The ‘treasure’ (diamond) is found when you realise what you need to let go of. This will be found after a period of review and contemplation.

The Tortoise in the Overcome section – Go slow and steady, this is a process that can’t be rushed.

The World Globe in the Do Differently section – Look at the stories you tell yourself. Significant change is needed. A new world view, new belief is needed before you can move on.

This map would suggest that you are making a choice from a place of habit, expectation or “should”. That you need to go back and review what it is that you really want. Not until you are clear on your own choices, is it the time to make change.
