🌟 Purpose
This exercise aims to journey you through the heart of perspectives – those invisible lenses through which we view our world.
By unpacking the sources and understanding their impact, you’ll be in a prime position to consciously shape your reality.
Instructions
1. Find a cosy spot where you won’t be interrupted. Perhaps with a cuppa in hand and your favourite notebook nearby.
2. Reflect on this statement:
“Reality is not what it seems, but what we perceive.”
Note down your initial thoughts about it.
3. Doodle or list out what comes to mind when you hear the word “perspective.” This is your starting point – your current understanding.
Instructions
1. Divide a page in your notebook into three sections:
– Culture
– Upbringing, and
– Personal Experiences
2. Under “Culture“, note down elements of your cultural background that have influenced your viewpoint.
Consider things like popular sayings, societal norms, or any cultural tales you were told.
3. Under “Upbringing“, reflect on the values and beliefs your family or guardians instilled in you.
How have these moulded your perspective? Perhaps certain phrases they always repeated or particular attitudes towards work, relationships, or money.
4. Finally, under “Personal Experiences“, dive into pivotal moments in your life that shaped your view of the world.
Maybe it was a trip you took, an incident at school, or a heartwarming interaction with a stranger.
Instructions
1. Look over what you’ve written.
Highlight or circle any realisations or patterns you observe.
2. Answer this question:
How have these collective influences shaped the stories you tell yourself daily?
3. Challenge:
Try adopting a completely different viewpoint on one aspect of your life.
For instance, if you’ve always believed that “work has to be hard“, imagine a reality where “work is playful and enjoyable“.
How does that shift feel?
Take a deep breath.
You’ve just embarked on an introspective journey to uncover the sources of your perspectives.
Celebrate this step towards greater self-awareness and the possibility of reshaping your narratives.
Remember, while our perspectives might have roots in our past, our present is the perfect platform to reshape, redefine, and rejuvenate them.
Your horizons are as vast as you allow them to be.
So, why not aim for the skies? 🌌
