Hi and welcome back to ‘R’, as we get ready to ROOT into our own magic.
So just very quickly from me, we’re looking at you RECOGNISING The Truth of Who You Are, owning your inherent power, the things that make you, you.
There’s lots of different ways you can do this. I’m going to share a few exercises, in the class, but right now have a think about:
These are all clues as to what’s really important to you.
And that’s what I want you to do, really spend this time for this stage, The RECOGNISING The Truth of Who You, savouring your own flavour.
For a long time we’ve been told who we should be.
What we should be striving to be,
What we should look like,
What careers we should have,
Whether we should have for families,
Should, should, should, should, should…
Right now is a time for you to clear through those, come back to yourself and say, actually, what is true for me?
Do I want that those things that I’m striving for in life, are they mine?
Those things that I think are important to me, are they mine or are they just what I’ve been told is important to me?
So first of all, a really good place to start is passions.
What are you passionate about?
What turns you on and lights you up and then ask yourself, what is it about them that you love, that turns you on and lights you up?
Another really good place to start is what did you want to be when you were a child?
Maybe you wanted to be an astronauts, and maybe that doesn’t mean you want to go to space. Maybe you had a love for adventure. Maybe you wanted to be a detective because you have a skill for seeing the unseen, putting puzzles together. Maybe you want to be an artist because you’re creative and love bringing your imagination to life. Maybe you wanted to be an actress because you loved entertaining, you love the limelight and you could just talk for hours and inspire people.
What are the things that bring you to life?
Then think about values.
What are the values that are most important to you? Love, connection, compassion.
What’s your driving force in life? What’s one of the most important values for you? That if people don’t share that value with you, you feel disrespected or rejected?
What are your core desired feelings? If you’ve ever looked at any of Danielle Laporte’s work, she talks about core desired feelings.
What are those feelings you want front and centre of your life.
If you could wake up every morning leaping out of bed shouting, Yes!, I know today is going to be full of fun, joy, connection, a wisdom, sage.
What are those words that you’re like, ‘oh, that’s me. That’s who I am’.
In the class, I’m going to share lots of lists for you just to go through and go: yes, yes, yes, no, yes. Oh my goodness. That’s who I am.
And there’s a really quirky exercise I want to do with you, because we can still look for our values and feelings through the energy of, ‘I should do that’.
So what I’m going to do now is I’m going to share with you an exercise that I do with my groups. And it always makes me chuckle….
I’m going ask you to get a pen and paper.
You might want to pause the video just briefly why you do this.
And I’m going to say if you are ‘xxx’, what would you be? It could be anything and it’ll make more sense in a minute.
And then, what I want you to do is write down the first one, the first word that comes into your head, even if it seems really crazy.
So for example, I once said, if you’re an animal, what animal would you be?
For myself I immediately through of a frog, and I thought frog a frog?
And then afterwards I shared this with my group. Then I looked up the symbolism of frog and I thought about a frog. You know, they’re very jumpy, you know, quite happy looking and springing all over the place. And I looked up the meaning of frog and thought; Oh yes, I do have a lot of frog quality, oh, that’s curious.
So what I’m going to do is I’m going to give you an outline right now. How does this show up for you? And just write down the first thing that comes to mind. Don’t judge, just do it.
Okay, I’m going to give you a few seconds. I’m going to move onto the next one. Just write down the first thing that comes to mind, and then you’re going to have a list. And then just give yourself some time to look over the list. Even if you’re like, oh my God, why did that come from? That’s exactly what we’re looking for. We’re looking at tapping into your, your unconscious mind to you. So your conscious mind hasn’t had a chance to go, oh, I would really like to be one of those.
And then have a look at each individual answer and ask yourself, what does that mean to me? So before you go and Google symbolism, have a look at what does that thing mean to me?
What does it represent?
Where does it live?
What does it feel like,
What does it tastes like? Maybe not frog lol, but for other things that come up.
What does it look like?
What season is it in?
Where does it live?
How do I feel about that myself?
And then just notice all of this information you’re receiving about the truth of who you are.
So are you ready?
Take a deep centred, breath.
So we’ll start with:
Let’s do one more for luck.
Then go over your list.
So for example, if you were to take the item of fruit, how do you feel about that piece of fruit?
Is it soft, is it juicy?
And have you got thick skin, but soft in the middle?
Is it quite plain looking on the outside, but amazingly vibrant in the middle?
Where are the seeds, are it’s seeds inside or outside, like on a strawberry.
Where is it used traditionally?
When you think about it, when was the last time you had it?
How did you feel about that experience where you had it?
When you’re thinking about the animals, what kind of qualities does that animal have? Like the frog, is it small but bouncy, or is it an eagle. I know the eagle is technically bird, but when I say to people, animals, Eagles often come up…
Is it King of the jungle?
Is it a sneaky little snake?
So what comes to mind as you go through your list, go with your first thought, trust it.
I know it seems a little bit crazy, but what we’re doing, is we’re trying to get into your subconscious to mind to the truth of who you are. And maybe some of that has been repressed. Maybe you’ve been told you shouldn’t be like that. It’s too much. Perhaps you’ve been trying to conform to the way you think you should be, but we’re saying ‘No’ to that, and we want you to embrace more of yourself.
So, like I said, there’s more exercises below. This is just been a little insight, but really use this time to savour in your own flavour, to connect with the truth of who you are.
So I hope you enjoy this.
Come and share with me what kind of pizza topping you and who knows what kind of pizza topping you are lol.
And I will speak to you very soon.
Exploring the values that are important to you, along with your personal preference for feelings, can help you understand more about the truth of who you.
They can shine a light on why you make certain decisions and avoid particular situations. Why you like one person and why another totally annoys you. It can help you to understand what holds you back and what pulls you forward.
Getting clear on what values and feelings make up your own inner landscape, can give you essential information on how to navigate the world of your outer landscape.
Go through the PDF lists of values and feelings below. Circle the ones that are most important to you.
You will probably want to circle many of them! Focus on the ones that are really the most important to you.
The lists below aren’t exhaustive, feel free to add your own too!
Go back through the list and now narrow it right down to:
Yes – just two values and three feelings.
Notice what you’re willing to trade off, what you are resistant to let go of, and where you feel really stuck.
Remember this is about you aligning with what’s important to you. Not what you think is right, or what looks best, but what FEELS aligned with who you are.
If you get stuck trying to narrow down your list, ask yourself the following questions, and notice any patterns of themes that come up:
Below is a PDF with a list of 18 items that many consider to be important in life.
Complete the following two stages to get really clear on what’s important to you.
Prioritise the list into the following categories:
Next, rank the 18 items into priority order based on your priorities at this point in your life.
No joint places allowed!
Yes, I know these may be a difficult exercises… but they’re designed to help you focus and get super clear on what is really, truly important to you.
As you approach this exercise, try not to ‘think’ about your answers, but go with what FEELS right, not what you *think* is right.
And remember, this is only for right now, your priorities may change next year, next month or even next week, but the chances are your Essentials will remain constant.
After completing these exercises, you now have a deeper understanding of what’s really important to you, as your list of qualities, traits, values and feelings are beginning to reflect the truth of who you are.
Your list is made up of:
This combined list is starting to help you understand your true essence.
In the next section: OWN Your Unique Blend of Magic, we’re going to refine this essence even more.
Often when we do value/feeling type of exercises, we can give the answers that we think are the right answers, rather than the ones that are true for us.
Sometimes the true answers are buried so deeply under layers of expectations and conditioning that it can be hard to access them.
This exercise is designed to bypass your logical and rational side, and dive deep into your truth.
This exercise works best when done without any prior knowledge of what I’m going to say, so watching the introduction video to this section works best; jump to 3 min 40 secs to get started, or scroll down to get the list here:
Now look at your answers, and consider what this is reflecting about yourself. Think of the item and how you feel about it, what it reminds you of, what it represents to you.
