“The opposite of presence is not absence, but vacancy,” John O’Donohue.
John O’Donohue believed that on earth, absence serves to remind humans of separation from God. Presence, on the other hand, he theorised, draws us closer to God.
You know I’m a huge fan of presence.
When you’re present, you remain true to yourself, as you’re less influenced by the energy and expectations of others.
When you’re present, you stay connected to the cosmic intelligence.
You remember that you’re a micro earth, actively creating a macro earth; containing the same elements, and the same seasons as the world around you.
You live and breathe with life.
You are not separate from life, you are life itself.
I often like to refer to the Universe, the life force around us, The Divine, as The Big U. ‘U’ obviously standing for the Universe, but also reminding us that you are the ‘little u’, you, connected to the Big U/you, the Divine.
As you walk this spiritual path, it doesn’t matter what you believe, or what you call the Goddess, God, Universe, Source… but it is important to have a connection to something bigger than yourself.
It allows you to get out of your own way and let yourself be guided by a higher power.
It requires us to:
What do you refer to The Divine as in your life?
When do you feel most connected to this energy?
When was the last time you felt connected to it?
Do you trust this energy? Why or Why not?
Connection to The Divine is like any relationship in your life, you must make an effort to show up and be there, not just when you want something – no one really likes friends like that! lol
I want you to spend some time thinking about how you can deepen your connection to The Divine energy in your life, in a really practical way that you will actually implement.
What can you do regularly to deepen your own connection with The Divine?
Ideas could include:
What will you commit to, to help you connect more deeply?
Then do your chosen item(s) daily for a week and notice how you feel in your relationship to the Divine.
Remember this is about consistency of practice and connection, not about the amount of time you spend doing your activity.
It’s better to spend a few minutes connecting daily, rather than 30 minutes once a week.
