SPELLs: Change Your PERSPECTIVE

Change Your PERSPECTIVE
It’s now time to take your stories and change how you see them.

Start by writing each of the 3-5 key Stories that you identified on their own large piece of paper.

Take each story in turn and ask the following:

  • How does this story serve you?
  • How does this story hold you back?
  • How could this story serve other people?
  • How do you see this story serving other people in your life?
  • How does the media benefit from you believing this story?

If you remember, during the introduction video to this course I asked you to consider climbing up a mountain, to get a different perspective.

Imagine climbing up the mountain, and looking at these beliefs with detachment.

What do you see about these stories if they weren’t personal to you?

Is there an archetypal pattern that is playing out?

Can you see a deeper meaning to these stories?

Look under the surface of the stories, what do you begin to notice, when you don’t make it about you, but the stories?

Where did these stories originate?

How could they have been useful in the past, maybe even 100’s of years ago? eg: Did they create order, keep people safe?

Is it still useful to society to have this story?

Is it supportive of you becoming a more fully expressed version of yourself?

Possibility and Opportunity

It’s now time to explore the possibility of new stories that you could tell yourself.

You might want to revisit the Counsel of SHEroes exercise: EMBODY All of You from the POWER section

Explore the viewpoints of each of the 9 SHEro Archetypes.

What opportunities and possibilities do they offer this area of your life?

What stories and perspective do they bring to this area?

Then consider:

What new stories are you ready to embrace in this area of your life?

What are you refining?

What are you replacing?

Re-Write Your Story

It’s now time to begin to re-write your story.

In thick marker pen, a different colour pen, or by sticking a new ‘clean’ piece of paper over your old beliefs, I want you to write out new stories to replace your old stories.

Write them in the present tense, and in a positive way. For example:

“It’s lazy to be unproductive” becomes “I honour my need to rest and enjoy how I feel fully nourished and rested”

“Rich people are greedy” becomes “I enjoy the security and freedom that being financially abundant brings me”

Then think of times in your life when this new story has been true for you, and where you’ve witnessed it be true for other people, where you have seen it portrayed in the media in the positive light of your new story.

Fill you paper with you new story and ‘evidence’ of your new story.

You can add colour, drawings, affirmations, article headlines. images.

Make it come alive and be true for you.
