Welcome back to the Re-Enchant Your Life Podcast with me, Rebecca Anuwen.
I’m back with some inspiration and an intuitive twist, as we use Oracle cards and charm casting to answer the questions you have.
On the last episode, we looked at the symbolism of The Map and the importance of trusting your knowledge. Today we move on to the card, The Book of Shadows, and you’re reminded to record your experiences.
Where in your life do you have a question about your experiences and the patterns that guide you throughout your life?
Perhaps you have a choice to make and you don’t want to repeat past patterns of behaviour, or perhaps you need to be reminded of the positive things that happen when you follow your heart.
Just take a moment right now to ask your question that you have about trusting your experiences in life.
And then to start with, we’re going to turn to the SHEro toolkit card itself, and we’re going to take the wisdom from the guide book. Then, I’ll draw a second card so that we can explore how that card adds more meaning to the first card. Then I’m going to draw a charm. Oh, I love my charms, allowing us again to add a deeper layer of meaning to that message for you.
We start with the card, The Book of Shadows, reminding you to record your experiences. What do you think of, when you think of a book of shadows? Do you even know what a book of shadows is?
The Book of Shadows – Record Your Experiences

The Book of Shadows, the guidebook says, “Your past becomes the path for your future.”
A book of shadows is a personal journal that focuses on your spiritual development and your magical self, rather than being just a to-do list. It’s a place to record your thoughts and your spiritual practices and experiences so that ultimately you can get to know yourself better.
The Book of Shadows reminds you to record your experiences.
Your life is guided by patterns. The seasons keep rhythm, and the sun and the moon keep time externally. Your body clock and monthly menstrual cycle, if you have one, keep time internally.
There’s majesty in patterns, they’re dependable, bringing structure, routine and order to life. When you feel out of sync, disconnected or overwhelmed, look for the patterns that surround you, remind yourself that they can be trusted to show up and guide you back home to yourself, time and time again.
Day follows the darkest of nights, just as spring follows even the coldest of winters, the moon always reappears after disappearing from the sky, light always follows the darkness.
As an adult, your pure innocent has gone. You’ve endured and have overcome, or in the process of overcoming hardships. You know that anything can change in a moment and yet you can still depend on the patterns and the rhythms that govern you and root into your daily life.
The SHEro actions suggested by the book says, “Record your experiences, pay attention to the moon over the next few nights and days. Get familiar with where we are in her cycle. Notice how she moves across your sky and where and when you can see her. Become aware of her dependable patterns as she cycles through her phases, no matter what’s going on in your life. Notice how she influences the way that you feel. Pause and take a breath, as you allow the moon to ground you into her rhythms of life.”
Do you notice the rhythms in your life?
Do you notice the ebbs and flow of maybe your emotions, maybe how you feel, maybe your dreams, maybe your intuition, maybe your grumpiness, maybe your pleasure?
It’s like, have you noticed those experiences?
The question that you have right now, is there a pattern that you can connect with to help you make your decision?
Is there wisdom in your past experiences that you know that when you trust your heart, when you follow the intuition, it might feel scary at fast, but it always works out in the end.
Or are there patterns where you followed someone else’s guidance and maybe it worked, so you can trust it again, or it didn’t work the way that you hoped and actually, maybe, don’t trust it again.
Just notice how the idea of recording your experiences, drawing on the past, recognising the patterns, can support you answering the question that you have.
I’m just going to draw another card, got the SHEro toolkit cards here, the rest of the deck. And of course, if you have your own deck of the SHEro Toolkit cards, let me know, because it would be quite fun if when we were doing this, if you pulled your own card right now to find out what deeper meaning you can have to The Book of Shadows, but if you don’t have your deck yet, let me draw one for us.
Oh I think we’ve had this one come up before actually. It’s The Pentacle and it says, “Commit to yourself.”
ADDITIONAL CARD: The Pentacle

So we have record your experiences and then commit to yourself. The Pentacle reminds us that we have everything we need within us.
The Pentacle is a five-pointed star. Those five points of that star represents the elements, and all of those elements are within us, and around us. So that’s really interesting that both of that links into the rhythms we were just talking about, the seasons, the day to night, the moon, all of those are the elements that are external, but also those same rhythms and patterns that flow within us.
And also, if you think of the five pointed star, it’s like a human standing with their feet apart and the arms out to the side. It’s like you are taking up all of the space. You’re not cowering, you’re not playing small, you’re standing tall, confident and proud, knowing that you are clear and sure and confident in who you are, so that you can commit to yourself. And the way that you know more about the truth of who you are, is to record your experiences, is to get to know yourself better.
I’ve shared this time again, but I think it’s worth sharing again, I believe that our purpose in life is to be the most fully expressed version of ourselves, regardless of situation or circumstances. It’s like we can still show up in the fullness of who we are.
We can still be honest, if honesty is important to us. We can still be fun, if fun is important to us, that’s regardless of things going on around us.
And it feels like… record your experiences, get to know yourself better and then commit to yourself. Commit to that choice that you want to make. Commit to knowing yourself deeply. Commit to trusting yourself deeply, because however old you are, you have a rich history of experience to draw upon.
So we’ve got those two cards and you’re going to hear me shuffling now, as I collect at least one charm, sometimes two sneak out. I have my perfume box here full of charms. And two charms came out. I pulled one out clearly, and then one stuck to my finger.
The first one is a flower. I was just counting how many petals it had, I was like Oh, is it a pentacle? But no, this one has six.
So we have the flower and we have a bicycle too.
ADDITIONAL CARD: Flower and Bicycle

When we look at recording your experiences, committing to yourself, we now have the energy of the flower, which is about… well I think of flowers and in the deck of cards, in the SHEro Toolkit cards, I also have charms for them too, there’s a charm casting kit, which it has all of that correspondances to the Toolkit cards, and the flower is representing the meadow. And the meadow is all about innocence and joy and light-heartedness.
When you commit to yourself, what I feel right now is, although it’s serious work, although its deep work, it can still have that energy of lightness, of fun, of curiosity. It’s like, although it’s a book of shadows, it doesn’t have to be a musty, dusty book. It can be vibrant and alive.
In fact, one of my favourite things in a book of shadows that I’m working on at the moment is, it’s full of colour. It’s full of different coloured papers.
And I was like, I’m not a very good scrap journaler, but I’m learning and I’m giving it a go. And now, like today I had four different pieces of paper in different colours, and I had some washi tape; I got slightly obsessed with washi tape a couple of years ago and I have quite a few to choose from….
Bring that colour and that joy, as you commit to yourself, the richness, the full colour of who you are, bring all of that to the table.
And with the bike, it’s keep moving forward.
When I think of bikes, it’s play. I don’t know how people can ride on road bikes. Where I live in the UK, on skinny country roads, but if I ignore that part for the moment, really, bikes for me mean fun.
They’re something that I can do with children. Go on bike rides and picnics with the family, and it feels light and playful and something that will propel you forward.
When we put that together, it’s like record your experiences, commit to the truth of who you are, but do so and commit to that energy with lightness and play. As you take action that moves you forward, again from a place of lightness, of play, of child like innocence, rather than childish, there’s a huge difference.
But what do flowers mean to you?
Perhaps record your experiences, commit to yourself and perhaps flowers to you are a gift.
What is the gift that you bring?
What are the gifts that you’ve recorded throughout your experiences?
What is the gift you need to commit to, and then get on your bike and keep going.
It’s like forwards, let’s go.
And the thing about a bike as well, it’s, well, this particular bike, is a one person bike. It’s not as though you’re traveling in a car and you’ve got passengers. This is your journey. This is about you staying in your lane and being true to yourself.
You have complete control of the bike. You’ve got the handlebars, you can control how fast you’re going. You can control whether you’re on the road, whether you’re on the cycle track, or whether you’re going off-road altogether.
I mean, in fairness, this doesn’t look like this bike here would do very well off road. But what additional information does the flower and the bike bring for you?
Just notice how the symbols, The Book of Shadows, The Pentacle, the flower and the bike. What story do they evoke in you? Where does your mind go when you think of those symbols?
The guidebook has my interpretation of that card, of that symbol, but it might be very different to you.
As always, this is about you trusting yourself, trusting the information that you gained from the card.
Let me know what you think, what came to mind for you.
Thank you for joining me and I’ll see you again very soon for another episode of the Re-Enchant Your Life Podcast, where we are going to continue on the journey through the SHEro toolkit cards to help you find trust in your intuition so that you can make better choices in life, as you begin to hear the inner wisdom and understand the language of your soul, because your soul does speak to you in the language of symbols.
And that’s why it’s so important to listen. Maybe what I say sparks something in you, and you’re like, yes, that’s what it is. Or maybe you’ll be like, no, Rebecca, that’s not right. So this is what I think for me. And it’s always about you.
This is about you being able to understand the language of your soul so that you can make better choices for you and trust yourself deeply.
Once again, thank you for joining me and I will see you again very soon.
