Welcome to The Re-Enchant Your Life Podcast with me, Rebecca Anuwen.
Last week in The SHEro Toolkit, we looked at the symbolism of The Compass and the importance of aligning with your own inner compass.
Today, we move on to the card, The Campfire, and giving yourself what you need.
Where in your life do you need to give yourself what you need?
Perhaps you’ve been hoping someone else will meet your needs, or perhaps you feel guilty about prioritising yourself?
Take a moment to ask your question about fulfilling your own needs.
And then we’ll start by looking at the meaning of the SHEro Toolkit, taking the wisdom from the guidebook, then I’ll draw our second card, and an additional charm, so that we can dive deeper into where you need to give yourself what you need, or how you can give yourself what you need.
The card is The Campfire.
The Campfire – Give Yourself What You Need
What do you think of when you think of a campfire?
Does it bring back fond memories of holidays, maybe family holidays, or adventures with your friends or family? Is it toasting marshmallows and singing, or is it: Oh no, can’t we stay in a hotel rather than a campsite?
What does a campfire represent to you?
I’m going to share my thoughts, but as always, what you think is far more important and relevant, hopefully my thoughts will inspire you or give you a chance to go. Oh yeah, that’s what I think… or actually, no, Rebecca, I completely disagree with you. Only, you have the right answer for you, so make sure you’re listening to your own inner wisdom.
So, let’s begin.
The guidebook says;
“Give yourself what you thought you needed from others.
A campfire provides lights, warmth, and heat for cooking. It can act as a beacon and also deter unwanted animals from coming too close. Campfires provide a place for people to gather to share food and stories and to enjoy each other’s company.
It’s essential to learn to meet your own needs. Looking outside of yourself for someone who will know, or guess what you need, will just leave you feeling anxious, frustrated, and reliant on others for your own inner peace. Will waiting for someone to rescue you, fix you, or fix your situation?
Get clear on what you need.
You may need to ask for something from someone else. You may need help and support from others, but it always starts with you.
You get clear on what you need.
You do what it takes to get it.
Meeting your own needs is about knowing yourself well enough to know exactly what those needs are. It’s all about recognising that your needs change.
They change throughout the month, throughout the year, and when dealing with certain situations.
Meeting your own needs is about honouring your need for rest and not just trying to keep going. It’s also about taking inspired action, but most of all, it’s about showing yourself love, compassion, and kindness.”
The SHEro Action suggests: “Get clear on what you need and then take action required to meet that need. Ask yourself, what do you need to do right now? How can you be kinder, more compassionate to yourself? Do you need to set clearer or firmer boundaries? Do you need to say yes or say no to opportunities or other people?
Do you need to rest or take action?
Get clear on what you need right now in this moment.”
How does that relate to your own question that you asked in relation to your own needs?
I’m just going to shuffle the cards and get some more guidance so we can spiral deeper into the meaning of this card.
Oh, and it’s The Labyrinth, which again goes gorgeously with this card because The Campfire asks you to give yourself what you need. And then The Labyrinth reminds you to consciously create your life.
ADDITIONAL CARD: The Labyrinth
This isn’t about waiting around for someone to guess what you need. It’s not about hinting about what you want and hoping someone will pick up on the fact that you need help with something or need some additional support.
This is about you consciously creating your life.
Last week we looked at The Compass and aligning with your own inner compass. So getting clear on who you are and what you want from life. And then this week, it’s about giving yourself what you need.
What do you need to live an expressed version of that aligned self? Because then you can consciously create your life.
You’re not just living in hope.
You’re not just living in wants.
You’re not just living in the energy of dreams, but you’re actually making things happen.
Perhaps you need to feel more supported. What can you do to help you feel more supported?
Perhaps it’s something you can do to help your own inner resilience, perhaps it’s about stopping doing something, so you have more time to focus on what you actually want to focus on.
Perhaps it’s asking for help from somebody else.
It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it supports you to consciously create what you need in this moment.
And I always think it’s actually a really important exercise to do every day, just stop and ask yourself; what do I need today to feel fulfilled?
Not what do I need to feel happy or joyful or any kind of emotive energy, but what do you need today to feel fulfilled?
It’s like, what do you need? And I think it’s really important for two things.
The first one being, you actually stop and ask yourself, what is it you need?
Because some days we can be so busy we forget to ask ourself what we need. We can be so busy going through the motions, that we forget that we have wants, needs and desires. We just fall into habits. And we’re just getting through the to-do list or getting through the list of things you have to do that day.
When you stop and ask; what is it I need? You’re like, Oh, What is it I do need? You actually take that moment to pause.
And then of course, the second important point is we can then give ourselves what we need.
Perhaps you need some fresh air. Perhaps you need a drink of water, perhaps you need an early night. Again, it doesn’t matter what it is, but try and make it something under your control.
Winning the lottery is not a very good need, because that’s reliant on someone picking your numbers out of the lottery.
Whereas if you’re choose that you need to drink some more water, move your body more or reach out to a friend…all of those are things that you control, and are all things that you can actually do.
That’s a really important thing to think about when you’re consciously creating your life and giving yourself what you need, is to make sure it’s something that you can actually start doing or move yourself towards.
Okay. Let’s see what different insight the charm is going to give us as well.
It’s a pair of Scissors.
It’s quite a big pair of scissors, and they’re very pretty and ornate.
Additional Charm: The Scissors
Again, give yourself what you need, consciously create your life, and because they’re Scissors, to me that suggests cutting away old habits, beliefs, people, ways you spend your time, limiting beliefs…
When you think about giving yourself what you need, what do you need to stop doing so that you can give yourself what you need now?
It might be that you don’t think you have time to do something. Then you look at your time and ask yourself, what can you stop doing? You can actually start doing what you need to do.
Now to stop doing something, it might mean you delegate it to somebody else. It might mean you just stopped doing it altogether. It might mean you pay someone else to do that for you, but how can you stop doing something, so you can actually consciously choose to spend your time on the things that you want.
And the same goes for your resources.
How are you spending your resources right now? Your time, energy, money? Are they aligned with what you actually want and need right now in this moment?
Now it might just be that you need to change something for a week. It might be that you need to change something for a month. It might be that something needs to stop or change altogether. This is your moment to really get really clear on what’s important to you.
How do you want to spend your time, your money and your resources?
Are they allocated in the right places? The Scissors would suggest it’s time to trim back on all the things you don’t need to do.
Perhaps you spend “too much” time on social media or with people that don’t uplift you, or too much time worrying about things that might never happen.
Where do you spend too much time or money or any of your other resources doing things that don’t support you be who you want to be in the world?
Because that’s the energy of the Scissors, cutting back. Maybe it’s like a really severe haircut, or maybe it’s just tidying things up and trimming things back slightly.
You know the answer to that, now is a good time to really review what’s working for you and what’s not.
Thank you for joining me today as we continue our journey through the cards.
I’ll see you again very soon for another episode of The Re-Enchant Your Life podcast where we’re going to carry on looking at working with your intuition so that you can trust yourself and make better choices in life.
Until then, I’ll see you again very soon.
