Hello and welcome to the A Pinch Magick Podcast with me, Rebecca Anuwen. If you’re listening today on the 9th of October, Happy Full Moon!

I just did a recording about this particular full moon, it’s a full moon in Aries. The important part of this was, I started talking around this idea of being true to you.

Aries is the beginning of the zodiac sign. I think about it as the baby of the zodiac signs. It’s that ram energy of being bold and courageous and its question is ‘Who am I?’

When we experience Aries in the New Moon energy, it’s the energy of, who am I becoming? What do I want for the next Zodiac year of my life? And this usually happens around April time.

When we’re in the full moon energy, it’s like shining a spotlight on you, asking you: Are you being true to yourself?

And this got me thinking today, as I want to share a story with you about being true to you.

I’m sure many of you have wondered, or spent some time wondering about:

What is it I’m here to do?

Who is that I am?

What are my skills?

How can they show up in the world?

I want to share with you that your power, that magick, that soul purpose, that ‘whatever’ it is that you want to call it, is always within you, and it will always find ways to be expressed.

When I was about nine years old, I remember at that age, I wanted to go to university. I don’t think I really knew what university was, my parents hadn’t gone to university, I didn’t know anyone that had gone to university, but I’d heard about university and I wanted to go.

I knew I wanted to go.

So that’s one piece to bear in mind. The next part of this is, you know when you’ve career counsellors at school, this is such an interesting thing for me, it happened when I was, again quite young and you’re deciding what subjects you’re going to study.

And I don’t even think this career guidance person was a teacher at my school, so she didn’t even know me.

She didn’t know who I was, but you had to put all this information into a chart thing and it printed out on that old fashioned paper, with the perforations down the edges and the green and white stripes haha, if you’re older than 40, you might know what I’m talking about…

Anyway, I really wanted to be a journalist.

I just loved writing and I wanted to be a journalist.

I can still remember this person saying, “Oh, it’s bit competitive. You probably want to think about something else.”

I was a straight ‘A’ student. If a straight ‘A’ student can’t go off and study English and become a writer or a journalist, it’s like, “Oh my goodness, who can?”

But being ‘little Rebecca’ back then, I was like, “Oh, okay, I won’t do that if it’s going to be too difficult.”

And so, I didn’t do it.

I didn’t pursue that avenue.

And then as I got older, my favourite subject was art.

I loved art.

When I did my GCSE’s (again showing my age), the only grade I cared about was my grade for art. I loved it.

My teacher was amazing, and I just love that form of expression.

Once again, I got an ‘A’ grade, and my Art teacher wanted me to go to this really, very good college that was actually quite local to us.

I didn’t apply because I couldn’t fill out the ‘about me’ page.

I didn’t feel good enough, even though I had the highest grade you could’ve got, and I couldn’t fill out the about page. I could fill out all the qualification information, these are what I do. I just couldn’t write why I should be accepted to the college.

And so, I wanted to go to university, but I couldn’t fill out the ‘about me’ page.

I wanted to follow Art as my dream, but I didn’t think I was good enough even though I was an ‘A’ grade student.

I wanted to be a journalist but I didn’t because some random person told me, “Oh, it’s a bit competitive, you shouldn’t do that,” and so I didn’t.

I went off and did my ‘A’ levels and I did what I thought I should do.

I didn’t go straight on to university, I had a year out and I actually got my degrees (I have two) as a mature student.

I completed two degrees while I was actually working.

So, I did the degree path, and I got my degrees but as a mature student, not in the traditional way.

Just the other day when I was sharing about, when I was revamping my website and everything that was changing, I was chuckling. I was writing my ‘About Me’ page, I wrote “Here I am writing an ‘About Me’ page for the entire world to have a look at and ‘little me’ couldn’t even write an about page just for one or two people at university to read.”

And then I was, “Oh, yeah, look, I wanted to be a journalist,” and I’ve written many books” (talking of which Magickal Knickers has a release date! It’s got a date, the 26th of November, that’s when that book is coming out.)

And it’s like, “Here I’m writing”. All of my work has that energy of creativity.

All of these things that ‘little me’ knew was an expression of my power and magick.

Now, ‘older me’, wiser me, is noticing that “Oh, that never goes away. It always tries to sneak through’.

And that energy of when we feel frustrated with things, particularly with where we are in life.

When we feel frustrated. When we feel just down, or angry, or annoyed with the way our life is turning out. The question I would ask you to ask is, “Where are you suppressing your life force?”

I’ve always had to be creative.

I’ve always had to write.

I’ve always had to express myself in those ways.

I’ve always had to learn, that’s why I created my own school: The Witch Academy.

I’m now a ‘teacher’. But again, I didn’t want to be a teacher. That’s probably the only thing actually that I was saying, “I’m not doing that.” That actually is my expression of a life path.

There are two things to look out for. The things that we resist, often are our biggest teachers, but also those things that just make you feel like YOU. Those things that you know you wanted to do as a child.

And I often think about this. When we’re first born, if we’re born into a loving, nourishing environment, we know who we are. We want to sing loudly, dance wildly, wear crazy combinations of clothes, or wear no clothes.

When we’re very tiny if we’re hungry we cry, if we want to cuddle we cry.

We just know how to get our needs met.

And over time it drips, drips, drips very, very slowly that we barely even notice, we learn how to behave in the world in a way that gets us the love, the nourishment, the recognition that we so deeply crave.

That might start as becoming a little bit quieter, not wearing quite so wild clothes and toning them down.

It might look like changing your career path because someone says, “Oh, that’s very competitive, perhaps you shouldn’t do that.”

And where over the years, starting from childhood, did you learn who you had to become to be loved, to be accepted, to have that level of connection, to get the accolades that you wanted, were you celebrated (and I wish this was true for everyone, but I know that it is not)?

Were you celebrated for being the brightest, boldest expression of you, or were you celebrated for being who someone else wanted you to be?

Now that might be being quiet, when you’re thinking about children maybe it was for being quiet. Maybe it was for being academic. Maybe it was for looking after others, looking after your baby brothers and sisters, making a cup of tea for someone.

It starts really small, and it seems quite sweet to start with that, “Huh, look at them looking after whatever and tidying up after themselves.”

Now, some of those things are skills that we want people to have, but when did it start becoming your identity?

When did it start becoming part of who you are, and how do you receive your recognition in the world?

So how different is it, from who it is you wanted to be when you were that wild bold courageous child that just knew how to get their own needs met?

Now, of course, some of those needs have changed as you’ve got older, but that fundamental magick and power within you haven’t.

It will come out in different ways.

So I didn’t become a journalist but I did become a writer.

I didn’t become an artist but I’ve become a creative.

A friend of mine, she’s always saying, “oh, updating your website again are you, Rebecca? Oh, creating something new, are you? Oh, when’s the next book out? When’s the next Oracle deck out? When’s the next journal out?”

I can’t not create something.

It might not look like art that you hang on a wall, but for me, it’s that same energy of creative expression.

What were your things that you wanted to do as a child?

And hopefully, you did them.

But maybe they evolved into something different.

Perhaps they became a different expression in the way that you showed up in the world. Perhaps, you’re still suppressing them.

Perhaps, you don’t even notice that you’re doing them.

It’s like someone in our community, she has been a nurse, which is a very prestigious space holding, nourishing, very formal, very organized space to be. It doesn’t surprise me at all that her gifts as an intuitive want to come through as card reading.

And it’s like, well, of course, because you’re still holding phenomenal space for someone to heal. You’re still holding that incredible space for someone to come back to their own essence to discover who they are. You’re still providing healing solutions for people.

So whilst it might not look like being a nurse on the outside, it still has the core values of holding space for people, helping people, nourishing people, nurturing people, getting them on their own path, getting them on that path to healing.

It’s not about being like mine, mine was quite literal, I want to write, now I write. It’s just in a different format.

Sometimes those core values of expression show up in very different external expressions, but the core value is still the same.

I often see this with people when they start new businesses that they say “Oh, I’m doing something completely different.” But actually, when we look at it, the fundamental skills and the way they see the world is exactly the same.

They’ve had 20, 30 years of managing an office or managing a team or whatever it may be. And now they’re expressing it differently because it’s like a new career, a new “job.” They think they’re starting from scratch.

Then go, “You’re joking, look at all these decades of experience you’re bringing with you.” Being organized or managing data, or managing people or managing relationships, or whatever it may be. All of it is there. That power and magick is still expressing itself in the way that it needs to be expressed. Just the facade is very different. Now maybe it feels more aligned.

Where in your life right now is your power or magick wanting to be expressed?

Like I say, this is that full moon energy, but we can do this any time of the month, any time of the year. Right now it’s particularly potent as we’re recording this, because that full moon energy is like a spotlight on you, shining a light on you saying, “Well then, are you being true to yourself?

Are your needs being met?

Where do you need to bring in better boundaries so that your time, your energy and your resources are being spent in places that are aligned and the right place for you?

Rather than, the question of; ‘where are you conforming right now?’

‘Where are you conforming at the detriment of you?’

Of course, sometimes we have to play the game, we have to conform, we have to follow the rules for whatever reasons, but it should be by conscious choice. It shouldn’t be because it’s expected.

So right now, where are you dimming your light?

Where are you ignoring your needs?

Where aren’t you expressing your full power and magick?

Because this is that demand for you right now.

As I said, those dreams, those desires we have as a young child, when we were wild and bold and courageous, and that might have only lasted for a little while.

I was painfully shy as a child, but I do have photos of me going “Oh yeah, I did have that courage and boldness in me once,” and then over time drip, drip, drip, it got squeezed out of me. It got squashed away. It got hidden. It got buried under the piles of should’s and expectations and managing my own environment, etcetera, as I’m sure many of you relate to.

And then, as we grow older, we stay buried under all of that.

That power and magick are always trying to crack through, always trying to nudge you in the right direction.

It’s always trying to express who you are because it is who you are.

It’s that thing of, “Oh, I want to do this.” And it’s like you don’t do you, you already are you.

It’s a case of remembering. It’s a case of being.

It’s not a case of, “I’ve got to do the work. I’ve got to find out who I’m?”

You already know who you are. It’s a case of letting it be. It’s a case of following the breadcrumbs. Letting it shine through, letting those cracks sneak up and go, “Oh, that’s curious. I want to follow that bit of curiosity”. It’s letting that breakthrough, that is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself because once you have that glimpse … I said this before actually, once you’ve had that glimpse, you can’t unknow it. It’s like there’s nothing more powerful than truth.

I know some people are going to argue with me and they’ll say “Oh, love is the most powerful force.” And I’ll say, “No, it’s Truth. It’s truth because once you have truth, there is no hiding. There is no escaping. It simply cuts through everything and opens your eyes. And it’s like, “Oh,” and you’ll feel it. It might only be a split moment. It might just be a flash of inspiration that’s very easy to dismiss. But when we hear truth, when we feel truth, when we know truth, something shifts and it ripples.

We cannot unknow truth.

Once you accept that, “oh yeah, this is who I am. This is how I have to express myself in the world”. It’s just who you are, then you realise that it’s not something that you have to work really hard at. You might have to work hard at busting through those limiting beliefs and prioritising yourself. But that inner knowing, that being, “oh, that’s who I am.”

I still struggle with this. I don’t consider myself an author even though I’ve written quite a few books. I don’t know why. I don’t know whether that’s a self-issue, or whether it’s just because I just consider myself super creative in all areas and I wouldn’t want to limit myself to just the title of author. But it’s just something I’m working on.

So where is it for you?

It doesn’t have to be about naming and claiming something.

You don’t have to be “Oh, yes, I’m an author. That’s who I am.”

That’s just one part of you.

You’re so many other things but inside that power and magick are “Oh, yeah.” How it needs to be expressed is through communication, through writing, through creations, through art, through holding space for people, through nourishing people, through nurturing people, through all of the things.

How does your power and magick want to show up?

That’s the only important thing. Notice, particularly under this full moon, in life in general, those areas where you feel frustrated.

Those areas where you feel ‘less than’.

Those areas where you feel yourself comparing yourself with other people.

Those areas where you feel jealous of other people.

Just notice, what’s really going on behind the scenes because it’ll be where you’re suppressing your power and magick.

You’ll see it activated outside of yourself and there’ll be that inner knowing – jealousy is a really good thing for this actually, you’ll see someone doing something, and you’ll feel jealous.

We know jealousy isn’t a very helpful emotion, especially if it festers, it can become quite nasty. If you notice yourself feeling jealous, just stop and say “What is it they have, that I want for myself? And sometimes it’s quite obvious, but it’s that question of you’re seeing someone do something that you have the potential do, but you haven’t said, ‘yes’ to it yet. So think about that.

When you see someone, that maybe you’re feeling jealous of, that maybe even looks feeling resentful. When you’re feeling jealous of someone, just ask yourself: “What is it that they’re expressing, that’s within me, that I haven’t claimed yet?”

Because that’s the other thing, sometimes we’re afraid to claim something for ourselves, and often once again that goes back to not wanting to feel selfish, and not knowing how to prioritise yourself in a healthy, nourishing, fulfilling way without you being super selfish.

Where are you suppressing that energy right now?

Where is it showing up as frustration?

Where is it showing up as feeling; “I should be further along my path right now.” Or, “I should be here?” Or, “this should’ve happened by now”. “I can’t believe I’m still going through this pattern” and it’s like ‘Yes’, because where aren’t you expressing your full power and magick?

Go back to the things that you love to do as a child.

What were those things that you love to express freely?

What were those things when you were in school, in college, any kind of education where you go, “Oh, yeah. This is my next step.”

Did you take it? You might have taken it and it didn’t turn out the way that you thought it would. Then ask yourself, “Was that your real desire? Or was that, again, what someone else expected you to do?

Now, had I become a journalist, I’m not sure now that looking at the world of journalism today that’s the place I really would want to be.

Do I love writing my own books on power and magick and trusting yourself, and all of those things? Absolutely.

Sometimes things aren’t realised because actually, maybe the universe knows better. And many, many years later I’m like ‘yeah, this is brilliant. Look at me doing all these things.’ Sometimes there are things to be learnt in any way that we choose to walk our path. It doesn’t always have to make sense in that moment.

Sometimes times brings clarity. And if you’re impatient like me, that’s the most frustrating thing in the world because am like, ‘I want to understand it now’. ‘Why didn’t this happen?’ ‘This is what I wanted?’

But maybe days, weeks, months, sometimes even years, we look back and we’re like, “Oh, thank goodness that opportunity didn’t happen because now I’m exactly where I wanted to be”.

But what I would ask right now for you is, I’m just going to leave you with this question:

Are you being true to you?

Do you know what that looks like? Do you know what that feels like? Do you know how to be true to you?

Because that is the energy right now. And as I said, I just wanted to hop on and share, to take this moment to recognise you.

What are those things that make you, you?

Like I said, being me, I squashed it, I squashed it, I suppressed it, hid from it, I tried to do the things I thought I should do. The things that some random person told me that I should follow in life.

It weaved, it bobbed, it ducked, it dived, it ended up all over the place. But when I look back, that core desire of writing, of creativity and of expression has always been with me in different guises. It’s just taken me this long for it to be really obvious and for me to go “Oh, yeah, look at all the things I did do.”

I might not have done it a traditional way.

I might not have done it the way I thought it was going to work. But I still did it anyway.

That power and magick within me can’t be suppressed, otherwise, I would feel miserable. I would be a shell of myself.

I can’t not be who I am, just like you can’t not be who you are, without there being consequences.

When I first worked in my practice as a kinesiologist, I very quickly realised, even 20 years ago before it was a mainstream thing, that most people that came to see me, they wanted the cause of their issues to be a physical thing, but it wasn’t. It was that they were suppressing their power and magick.

They were being who they thought they should be.

They were following the rules of society instead of expressing their power and magick.

Now, that doesn’t mean you have to rip your whole world apart and quit everything and change everything… unless that honestly feels aligned for you to do so.

; who you are, who you were born to be, what your skills are.

Like I said, I’ll leave you with that question. ARE YOU BEING TRUE TO YOU? If not, how could you honour that part of you more?

Come over into our community and let me know… who you are.

What are those dreams you had when you were younger, and how have they shown up today? What are those dreams you had when you were younger, and you have no idea how to express them today?

Come over into our community and I’ll find the patterns for you. One thing I do love is finding a pattern.

And a little PS. after last week’s episode I was talking about charm casting, thank you to all the people who came over and asked for a free reading. If you want to know anything about charm casting, there’re loads of readings for you to have a look at, and see how I used charm casting, again one of my superpowers, finding the patterns. It’s something else I can’t not do.  I always remember in art, one of the reasons I loved art so much is because the symbology that I would put into my art, everything, from the shape of a person, how they were standing, the colours I would use, the situations I would put people in, it was like everything had meaning and symbolism to me. And whilst I might not be painting like that, I am still creatin, I’m still finding the patterns, I’m still absolutely obsessed with symbolism.

Thank you to all those people that came and played. I’m still working through all the requests so if I haven’t done yours yet, it is on the way.

And if you haven’t listened to last week’s episode and you want a free charm casting reading go and listen to last week’s episode and it’ll tell you how to get readings because like I say, I love doing them. Thank you for playing along.

Go and be more you, and I’ll speak to you again very soon.

TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to the A Pinch Magick Podcast with me, Rebecca Anuwen. Today I want to talk about intuition.

But first of all, I want to share a huge celebration!

Yesterday, I actually finished my book. It’s had its final edits. The editor is taking a week off and then it’s being proofread, which is so exciting!

I don’t know if you’ve ever had this before, it just feels, a couple of weeks ago I was, “This is never going to get done. I’m never going to get to the end of this, there’s still so much to do,” and then suddenly it’s just all come together and I’m just, “There’s nothing else for me to do now. I’ve done my part of it.” Magickal Knickers and other enchantments; reclaim the magick of you, the book is nearly ready to be launched into the world.

And as I know you love listening to podcasts, you might actually like this, because I’m recording an audio version and the audio version randomly, because it’s just me doing this, won’t be going out through Audible. It’s actually going to be downloaded onto a podcast app.

So wherever you’re listening to this podcast now, if you wanted to, you could listen to my book too.

When the book is launched, in about six-weeks time, if you purchase the book you can get a free copy of the audiobook. Or you can just purchase the audiobook. It’s entirely up to you.

So that’s very exciting. And I’ve had great fun collating free bonuses to download with the book.

Is anyone else feeling super creative right now?

Because that’s why today’s podcast has come about actually, is I’ve been reviewing a lot of courses on my website, I have so many courses, and most of them I haven’t had available for a long time.

Today I find myself updating a course on Intuition and updating a course on Charm Casting.

And it got me thinking about the importance of intuition and how pivotal it is for me and my life. So much so, I now have four Instagram accounts (just being a little bit extra). I have my SHEro’s Journey one, called Your SHEro’s Journey; which is just all my pictures of nature. It’s my place I go to when I just want a sacred pause. So, Your SHEro’s Journey for a pause in nature.

Then I have one, following the adventures of my little puppy Merlin the Weimaraner, he’s got his own account.

Obviously, I’ve got the Modern Witch Way account, which is linked to this podcast and all the magickal work that I do.

Then I’ve started an intuitive one called Intuitive Charm Casting, which is just about charm casting.

Now, again you might like this, because what I’m going to offer is because I love charm casting, I’m absolutely obsessed by it. I’ve written a book on charm casting. I’ve created another book just on charm casting mats, which is what you can cast your charms onto.

Maybe you’ve heard of charm casting, maybe you haven’t but it’s so fun. It’s super practical, which is why I love it, but what I’m doing on that intuitive charm casting page is, because I want it to be a resource for people to learn how to charm cast, how to tap into their intuition, I’ve been offering free charm casting readings. And what I’ve been doing is, the exchange is, that I can share it on my Instagram.

So I go live. I don’t name anyone, but I have just done two today, actually. Someone wanted a general guidance and someone else was starting a business on Etsy and they wanted to know what they need to be aware of. It was a card reading business. I haven’t named where the questions have come from, they’re not tagged are anything like that. They’re fairly anonymous. And then I’ve just done a reading for them. And it’s been really fun and the feedback’s been excellent.

I want people to see how I’ve cast the charms, how I’m interpreting the charm, what happens if they’re upside down, what happens if they fly off the mat.

Now, if you go, “Rebecca, what on earth is charm casting?” That might be like a foreign language, but if you are interested in charm casting or learning about it, come join me over on Instagram, and of course, pop into my DM over there and ask for a free reading.

I’m trying to do one a day at the moment. I think I’ve got four or five lined up, but it’s the weekend, maybe I’ll do a few more.

If that interests you, come over and if you did want a free reading come over. Obviously if everyone who listens to this podcast asked for one; that might be a very, very, long list… but I don’t suppose everyone will ask for one.

If you’re curious about charm casting, want to see how I work with the charms, come and join me.

So, all that to say, it’s really got me connected to the energy of intuition today.

I think when we’re working our magick, even just when we’re doing regular life and creating a magickal lifestyle. It’s so important to be able to discern what’s your intuition and what isn’t your intuition.

Sometimes people go, “Oh, I’d this feeling and it was my intuition.” And sometimes that’s not your intuition, sometimes that’s fear. Sometimes it’s trauma stored in the body.

Sometimes it’s your subconscious trying to keep you safe.

The first thing that I think is essential to understand about your intuition is it will never tell you anything negative.

It will never berate you. It will never tell you off. It’s not what I call ‘jazz hands’ energy either.

Someone said to me once, that they’d signed up for this program, it was a very high end program, a business program. And they said, “I just knew it was the right thing, Rebecca because it felt like just before you take off on a plane.”

And I thought, “That doesn’t sound like intuition. That sounds like emotion. Emotions are highly charged, whereas your intuition is that quiet voice, which is why it’s so easy to bypass it, because it is just that quiet voice that’s not got any attachment or charge to it.

And sure enough, unfortunately that course didn’t work out for that person and they ended up in a significant amount of debt because it.

Obviously that’s quite an extreme case, but when we can trust our intuition, when we can understand what is our intuition and know what’s fear and what’s emotion…  it really allows us to make decisions that are right for us.

For example, when I was creating a page on my website, it’s almost like things just drop into place. And I’m like, “Yeah. That’s it. That’s the picture. That’s the word. That’s the colour’. Now, not every single page is as perfect as that, but every so often, I go, “There it is.” It’s just that inner knowing, everything just feels like it lines up for me.

I’ve always been incredibly intuitive, and I do believe, absolutely believe, every single person has the ability to be intuitive too.

Some people are just more connected to their intuition. But everybody has the ability to be intuitive.

The more we work with it, it’s a skill, the more you work with it, the better it becomes.

Of course, I’ve been practicing kinesiology for quite a few years now, a few decades now, and that’s a very intuitive skill to hone. 20 plus years, I’ve been honing that skill and it’s something that I barely think about.

I have a message and I trust it.

Sometimes I might want to ignore… it but I do trust it.

It really came home to me when one day, a friend of mine, her father had passed. And she said to me, “Rebecca,” and she asked me a question about him now that he had passed. And straightaway I heard an answer. I said to her, “Oh, I don’t know if this is right, but this is what I heard…’ I doubted myself because I don’t talk to dead people. It’s not something that I want to do.

And she said to me, “Don’t you trust yourself?” And honestly, it felt like someone had whacked me around the face with a wet towel.

Straightaway, I answered “Yes, of course I do!”. I never ever doubt my intuition ever. And she said, “so, was that the message?”

And I said, “Yes.”

I didn’t know this person, they live on the other side of the world from me. And she said, “Yeah, that’s exactly what he would have said.”

But logically, that was a bit of a weird message. You think someone who had passed might be a bit more charming. But she was like, “No, that’s exactly what he would have said.”

But for me, it was that wake-up call of, “don’t you trust yourself?”

It was such a shock because I absolutely trust myself.

I trust myself when crows tell me where a tree is, I trust myself when, hey, ‘there’s a dragon flying around my room right now. It’s not mine, who does it belong to?’

Now, that’s quite an extreme amount of trust to have in yourself.

Like I say, when it’s your day in and day out, it becomes quite normal.

But how do you get there?

I think for me a couple of years ago I realized that the fundamental piece that enables me to trust my intuition, to trust the messages I receive, to understand when it’s a self-doubt moment or when it is my intuition.

I really believe it’s about becoming a ‘person of your word’. Because intuition is all about creating a relationship with yourself, creating a relationship with the unseen, creating a relationship with everything around us.

Our world very much values logic and reason.

It doesn’t like things it can’t contain. It doesn’t like things it can’t put under a microscope and understand what’s going on.

When we step into our intuition, it’s very much stepping into that unknown energy that our society doesn’t really value because it can’t control it. It can’t contain it. There’s no value to it because they don’t know how it works.

This idea of completely trusting yourself and becoming a person of your word, for me was the fundamental piece to this.

For years, I always used to joke, “Oh, I think I could bend time.”  I would drive somewhere, absolutely obeying the speed limit, I mean sometimes I might sneak a little bit faster, but on these occasions, it’s almost like I slowed down and got places quicker.

I’d drive somewhere and it would only take me 20 minutes. I’d think about the distance I just travelled and go, “How on earth did I do that with traffic and not breaking the speed limit? “

Or I do a piece of work and I go, “oh that won’t take me 45 minutes,” and it would only take me 45 minutes. And I’d look back and go “How on earth did I manage to write that much, or create that much within 45 minutes?”

I think it’s because I don’t lie to myself.

If I tell myself “it will take 45 minutes.” Guess what? It takes 45 minutes.

Now here’s the unfortunate thing. I wish I could go, “oh yes, this drive to Cornwall, which would usually take four or five hours is only going to take me 10 minutes.” Obviously, I don’t believe that. It’s not something I can force upon something. But if I look at a piece of work and go, “Oh, that will take me forty-five minutes.” It will take me 45 minutes, even if when I look at it afterward and I go, “Oh, that was a lot of work to get done in that time.”

I haven’t learnt how to quite manipulate the energy to work for me in any other way apart from when it’s just that intuitive hit of, “Oh, yeah. It’s going to take me that amount of time’. And I think it’s because I don’t lie to myself, that it does take me that amount of time.

It’s almost like the energy of my time and space says, “Well, she doesn’t lie to us”, of course, that’s what it’s going to take.

It’s that absolute alignment with your energy, your thoughts, your belief, and then so it is.

I actually thought I could bend time. I was like, “I don’t know how I do this, but I just bend time.”

Then I realised it’s actually because I trust myself and that the energies around me are just, “Oh, yeah, of course, that’s what it’s going to take.”

If you would like that skill too, to trust yourself too, ‘to bend time’. It really does start with becoming a person of your word.

Become a person of your word

As I said, it’s all about relationships.

Every day do something, say something consciously so that you can trust yourself. And it might be that every day I’m going to drink more water and then every day you drink more water.

I would start with something really easy, so easy that it almost seems silly.

How often do you lie to yourself?

It sounds a bit harsh when I say it like that. But how often do you lie to yourself?

Because quite often, we say to ourselves, “Oh, I’m going to start that exercise routine and I’m going to go to the gym three times a week or I’m going to cut back on eating this or I’m going to read my book or I’m going to write that book, or I’m going to start this habit…”

And then we don’t. And we remember that we didn’t.

Our body’s keep the score and say, “Oh, she said she was going to do that. And she didn’t. He said he was going to change this. And he didn’t.”

If I said to you, that person over there always lies to me. You would meet them and you wouldn’t trust them.

We don’t like people we can’t trust.

We might tolerate them, but we’ll never be truly vulnerable or intimate with that person because we don’t trust them.

It’s no different than when you lie to yourself, even if it seems like it’s just a little lie; “Oh, it’s nothing really. I didn’t really mean it”.

Think about how many times today you’ve broken promises to yourself.

Perhaps you say, “I’m never going to contact that person ever again.” And then you do.

Perhaps you say to yourself “I’m never going to let them speak to me that way ever again.” And then you do.

Each time you’re betraying yourself.

Each time you’re wearing away that confidence within yourself.

Instead of making the big promises to yourself, start really really small.

Say, for example, you wanted to feel fitter, healthier, leaner and stronger and you want to start an exercise routine. Instead of saying to yourself, “I’m going to go to the gym five times a week.” Just say to yourself, “Each day I’m going to move my body.” That might look like walking around the garden, walking around the block, stretching when you get out of bed, having a little dance around the kitchen when you’re making your morning drink. It doesn’t have to be big.

We live in a world where ‘big’ is celebrated. And someone might ask, “How is your exercise routine going?”

And you might answer, “Yeah, today I danced around my kitchen.”

And they might be like, “Oh….”

Whereas if you go, “Yeah, I’ve been to the gym five times this week, for two hours each time.” Then people will go, “Oh, wow. That’s amazing.”

We’re not doing this for other people, we’re doing this to change your relationship with yourself, not how you’re perceived by the world. Because your relationship with yourself is going to outlast everything.

When you can make those promises to yourself:

“Today I’m going to drink a little bit more water”.

“Today I’m going to type 50 words of the book I’m writing”.

“Today I’m going to make sure I read half a page of a book”.

“I’m going to listen to that podcast”.

“Download that audiobook.”…

Whatever it may be, choose something that you’re going to succeed at.

It almost feels like cheating.

“Yeah, Rebecca that’s so easy.” But when you do more, when you say I’m just going to move my body and then you do end up going to the gym, going for a run three, four, five times a week, you’re winning.

There’s no pressure, you’re doing that for the joy and delight of it.

You’re doing it because it nourishes your body and it feels good. Rather than doing it because you have to. And the added, almost more important, benefit is, you started to tell yourself the truth.

I often think that truth is the most powerful force in the world.

I know some people say “No, no, Rebecca. It’s love.” I actually think it’s truth.

Because once you know truth, there’s no turning back.

You can’t lie to yourself, once you know the truth.

Everything changes when you have that energy of truth and that’s what we’re looking for with our intuition, that moment of clarity.

That moment that comes in and we just know, it just feels a particular way. It feels clear. It feels calm.

The problem is again in our ‘rah rah rah’ ‘jazz hands’ life that we live, we often think; the noisier the better.

It’s like you’ve to be louder and noisier to get the attention.

When our intuition drifts in, gives us the message and drifts away again, we grab it and go, “Oh, that’s it. This is so true,” and it just lands, and it feels perfect.

And then… we start to dissect it.

Saying, “Well, maybe that wasn’t it”, it didn’t last very long and then it’s gone. It hasn’t left a huge wake. You believed it, and then the judgments, the expectations, society comes along and you dissect your intuition (again).

And before you know it, you’re saying things like,

then prove it to me’.

‘How can this be right?’

‘What about this?’

‘And this doesn’t even seem right anymore’

and bla bla bla bla …

You’ve dissected your intuitive message until there’s barely anything left.

Then you say, “it can’t have been my intuition” and move on again.

Instead of taking that moment just to pause, to sit with it and trust it.

Our intuition communicates with us in so many different ways. I want to give you this as an idea of how you can start really connecting with your intuition and knowing how your intuition communicates with you.

How does your intuition communicate with you?

Now, I’m a very auditory person, when I receive intuitive messages I hear them. When I know something is right, I feel it. Like I said about my website earlier, sometimes things just land and clunk there, just clink into place ever so gently.

That might not be true for you.

Maybe you do hear things, maybe you do feel things, but maybe there’s a different way your intuition communicates with you.

I think the easiest way to understand how your intuition communicates with you, is to think about what’s your dominant sense?

What’s that sense that takes over in your life?

I use many of my senses and you likely use more than one or two, maybe three, maybe all of them. But just for now just think about what’s your top sense.

What’s your sense that gets overwhelmed the quickest?

For me, it was “Oh, my god, can we just turned the noise down.” I walk into my house sometimes and everyone is on different things and there’s noise going on all over the place. I just go, “Let’s just calm all this down, please.”

Or perhaps it’s light, this is another one for me. My partner walks around turning all the lights on and making them brighter. Then I walk in and I turn them all back down, candlelight for the win for sure.

Maybe everything suddenly becomes too much in your eyes too and you go, “Oh my goodness, just please turn everything down.

Perhaps suddenly you just feel overwhelmed physically and just feel that you’ve to retreat and get away from everything.

What’s that sense that is the quickest to get overwhelmed?

That’s the sense that’s likely to be the sense that you receive most of your intuitive information from.

As I said, it’s likely to be through several senses but start by noticing that one.

The other way to look at it is, which sense delights you.

If you could have your perfect day, what would you do?

Perhaps you would go for a massage because you just love that feeling.

Perhaps you would go and visit a museum to gaze upon the beauty.

Perhaps you would want to go and listen to a band or hear the waves crashing on the ocean.

What’s the sense that you’d love to have nourished and fulfilled because that brings you the greatest sense of satisfaction?

Which sense becomes overwhelmed and which do you find most fulfilling? Maybe they’re the same?

Notice the answers and become curious.

Perhaps you’ve different answers, great, notice both of them.

But for the next day, say for example, if it was sight, you’ll go, “Oh my god, it’s sight, Rebecca. Sight is my predominant sense.” As you go through the day just notice images. Images might come to you and feel almost dream-like. You might physically see a sign saying ‘This way’, you might see, you might notice some words in a book that seem to jump off the page. You might catch something out of the corner of your eye or flick through a magazine or just notice that there’s a word or phrase that pops up before you.

Perhaps you look to the clouds and you’ll see an image or a shape of something, or you look to the leaves on the floor right now, if it’s autumn where you are, and you’ll see a pattern.

Look for the patterns, look for the shapes, look for the words, the signs, the symbols.

If it’s your ears that become overwhelmed the quickest or that you’re, “Oh, gosh. I just love listening to music so much’. Notice songs lyrics, notice conversations that you overhear. Notice messages that seem to randomly pass through your mind.

But listen, pay attention and listen.

Perhaps you’re a feeling person, notice the feelings that you have throughout the day.

When do you feel aligned? What gently pulls you forward? What moves you backward?

Because there’s different types of intuition too. Some intuition pulls you forward. That’s a heart intuition. That’s a ‘yes, please’ energy. And some intuition, that gut intuition pulls you backwards and literally repulses you to say, “No, that’s enough.”

Start there and start experimenting with how the world around you communicates with you.

Because I believe the world is always communicating with us, we just have to learn to receive the information that it gives us.

I’m one of those annoying people, where others will ask, “Rebecca what’s the meaning behind this?” and “I’ve seen this, what does that mean?”, or “I’ve got a pain in my knee, what does that mean?”

I’ll find the symbology in most stuff.

Start becoming curious, because when you can trust your intuition, you get to cut out the noise of the judgments, the expectations, all of that rubbish energy in the world and come back home to yourself.

It allows you to make decisions quicker.

You don’t have to second guess yourself.

You’re not starting on a path and going, “Is this the right one? I don’t really know.”

It’s exhausting just re-questioning yourself again and again.

Maybe currently you question everything. Asking ‘Is this the path I’m going to take?” And you know the answer is ‘yes’.

But then you ask, “But I need another sign”. And then another sign, and then demand something like; if four red cars come by, I know I’m on track.

And then the four red cars come by and you go,” yes, but now I want two swans.”

When you trust your intuition, it cuts through all of that. It gives you such a deep sense of inner power and sovereignty and inner authority.

And even if people around you don’t agree with you, even if people around you don’t understand your life choices. Even if people around you go, “Rebecca, a crow didn’t talk to you.”

I can just go, “Sure…”

Because I absolutely trust my experience. So even when I get messages from dead people, I go, “Oh, yeah. I do have to believe that, don’t I? Because absolutely I do trust myself. (Also, I tell dead people that I’m not open for conversations in general, it just that one happened to sneak through because it was my friend).

Equally, we can be very clear on what we will allow and won’t allow in our space. You might decide that actually you don’t want to be bombarded with intuitive wisdom all day long. You want to sit down with your journal at the end of the day and be very considerate with it.

Or say to the universe, between this time, between two and three o’clock on a Sunday afternoon, that’s when I’m going to sit down with my planner or my journal and I’m going to ask a question and that’s when I would like my guidance in return.

These are your rules.

These are your choices.

I happily live a very intuitive life where I just think to myself, “Oh, that’s the answer. Oh, there’s the answer.”

Or I use the charms and it’s been really fun actually doing these little live readings for people. I’ve lots of people asking me for readings and it’s not something I’ve offered like this.

If you’re working with me on a one to one basis, I always end the session with a card reading.

The people closest to me, always say “Rebecca, can you pull a card for me for this or can you do this, a reading for this.” And I do that. But it’s not something I offer on my website.

This is the first time I’ve actually offered readings to random people; obviously, you’re not random lol. To people that maybe I don’t know in person, or I’ve not worked with. It’s been really really good fun.

And I happily live my life like that.

In fact, when my sister came to see me, she was asking me about the charms and she went, “How do these things work? I saw you just pick some”.

I say to her “I throw them on this piece of paper, like a map.” And I said, I can read the charm for you. I can give you a message.”

And she says, “Show me then.”

She got some charms and she just threw them on a piece of paper and on this piece of paper I went, okay, what I would read from this is; blah, blah, blah. I just told her how I read each of them.

“How do you read that so quickly? You must have known these charms were going to come up.”

Okay, I’ve got a box with about 700 charms and she picked them and threw them on my piece of paper. But somehow, as she doesn’t think I just read them that quickly haha.

And I said, “well do it again then,” and she did it again. Then she goes, “Oh my god, how do you do it so fast?”

When I think about it, it’s just that I’m totally immersed into that world,  just being that connected to the world around me is just my lived experience and I don’t know how else to be anymore.

That doesn’t mean you have to be like that too.

You might just decide, “Do you know what Rebecca? I would just like to have access to my wisdom if I have a question or if I’ve an obstacle to overcome”. And that’s absolutely, perfectly valid.

You might want to put a container around it and just say to the universe, I’m only going to connect with my intuition when I’ve got this particular journal in front of me. Or I’m only going to do it when I’m using my oracle cards or my tool of divination, then I want answers.

The rest of the time, please be quiet; don’t try and communicate with me.

All ways are valid.

I didn’t even know that I was intuitive, really. It’s just always been my lived experience and people started commenting to me about intuition and, I was, “Oh, really?”

Of course, that came very much through my energetic training and now decades later, it’s just who I’m. I can not be it.

So come over to any of my Instagram pages. I’ve linked everything in the show notes. Come and join me.

If you fancy joining and playing along with my charm castings, just send me a message, ask me a question or ask for general guidance.

Come and watch the ones I’ve already done and see how I use the charms.

See how I connect with the symbology because in that moment, I’m, reading the charms how the symbols present to me.

If somebody else was reading it, those symbols might mean something else to them.

It’s almost like that’s how we create our own personal symbology as we walk through the world.

If you were walking along and suddenly a spider caught your eye, you might be like, “Oh, that’s a message”. Or if a leaf was swirling in a particular pattern or the cloud look a particular way, or you suddenly felt a particular way walking down the street.

All of that you can use as ways that the world is communicating with you. The way that the energy is communicating with your higher self, with your consciousness, whatever it is you want to call it.

All of those are ways that you could explore your intuition and the world around you.

Now, if you want to hone your skills, in our magickal community, if you’re not a member come and join us, because every Monday I do an intuitive challenge.

I do two things, I do, 1). which is an intuitive challenge and 2). an intuitive guidance for the weekend. I’ve been doing that for over four years. I’m nothing but consistent lol.

Come and hone your skill every week, come and do that little challenge.

Or like I said come and join me on this Instagram page, The Intuitive Charm Casting page, and I’m doing intuitive challenges on there.

The pages have only been live for a few days but I’m going to talk much more about intuition, connecting with your intuition.

If you have any questions on intuition, drop me a message, email me, drop me a DM and I’ll do an ‘ask-me-anything’ episode on intuition.

When you can connect with your intuition, and I think this is why it’s so important to me, is that you can cut through the noise of life.

You can cut through the shoulds, the expectations and the judgments and actually really connect deeply and powerfully to your own power and your own magick.

It just creates a much more fulfilling experience in life.

If you’ve questions, come and ask.

Come on over into our community and let me know any insights you’ve had for today or any practices that work for you that you’d like to share. And of course, come and share what is your dominant sense is.

Is it something you like, “Yeah, of course, Rebecca, I love intuition. It’s so easy for me.” Or is it still an area where you’re, “Yeah, today I was honing my skills a little bit,” and if so, like I say, Instagram and our magikal community, they’re the places to go to either ask your questions or just to practice those skills every week.

Something I’ll just quickly say, if you do my little intuitive challenges, it’s not about getting them right, which sounds like an odd thing to say. Because what I usually do, is I put three objects down often, recently and most often it’s been charms, so I put three charms down. And then I take away two and ask you which one will remain? Now, you would think you’ve to get it right for it to be correct. That’s great if you can do that. It’s a bit of a boost of, “Yeah, I got it right.” But equally the reason we do it is so that you notice how you felt about the correct one, the one that was left because you might have thought it, “Oh, it’s this one,” so it’s number one but you chose number two. Where else do you second guess yourself?

Perhaps you felt it was number one but heard it was number three and it was actually number one. So where else have you override with thought rather than trusting the feelings.

Or maybe in that moment perhaps there was a bee, a penguin, and a wolf, and you pick the wolf. And it’s like well, actually, maybe in that moment, the symbology of a wolf had a message for you.

It’s not about getting it right, but again it’s about learning to communicate with yourself, and noticing how the world communicates with you. How your intuition communicates with you?

I hope you can come and join us in any of those locations. I’ve put all the details in the show notes.

Thank you for joining me.

Have a fabulous weekend and start paying attention to how the world wants to communicate with you.

About Sabrina Scott

Sabrina Scott has been reading tarot and doing witchcraft for more than twenty years.

She went to her first séance at eight years old, and grew up in Modern American Spiritualism.

Sabrina’s witchcraft practice is deeply intuitive and mediumistic, with a focus on trance, ecstasy, and communing with the dead.

Sabrina sees magic as a way of building relationships with non-human beings, and as a way of healing and grounding the body, mind, and soul.

Sabrina owns and operates a successful spiritual teaching and consulting business, with clientele worldwide.

Her online courses and group coaching programs, Tarot Without Bullshit and Magic Without Bullshit, have helped hundreds of students build skills and confidence in their spiritual and divinatory practices.

In addition to her professional spiritual work, Sabrina is also a PhD candidate in Science and Technology Studies at York University, where she is working on a project about contemporary witchcraft as a popular science method for improving health outcomes for persons with developmental trauma.

Sabrina’s first graphic novel, Witchbody, was nominated for the Doug Wright Awards, the biggest comics award series in Canada. It is currently taught in university curriculum in the United States, Canada, and the UK.

Sabrina’s work has been featured in various documentaries, magazines, and other news/media outlets, including films produced by Barcroft TV and Vice. Media appearances include those in the BBC, Nylon, Yahoo!, Refinery29, Broadly, Witches Magazine, Torontoist, FemRadio, and more.
