Discovering and Embracing Your Magickal Gifts

Discovering and Embracing Your Magickal Gifts

In the heart of our personal labyrinth, a shimmering jewel of unique magickal gifts awaits discovery.

Today, we venture into this labyrinth, guided by the glow of self-knowledge, to seek this precious treasure.

Embarking on the Journey

Discovering our magickal gifts is a journey into the unexplored corners of our psyche.

It takes courage, curiosity, and an ample dash of self-love.

As we navigate this maze, we uncover hidden facets of our talents that make our magick unique.

Tools of Discovery: The Power of Journaling

Our journey is enriched by a myriad of tools, each serving a unique purpose.

One particularly powerful tool is the art of journaling, a mirror reflecting our unspoken thoughts, desires, and talents.

To guide you on this path of discovery, here are some journaling prompts that might help you reveal your hidden gifts:

  • When do I feel most connected to my inner self?
  • What activities or situations make me lose track of time?
  • When have I felt an unexplainable pull or affinity towards a particular form of magick or spiritual practice?
  • What aspects of nature, people, or situations do I feel an instinctive bond with?
  • What are some recurring themes or symbols in my dreams?

Reflect on these questions and let your intuition guide your pen.

Remember, there are no wrong answers, just stepping stones to greater self-understanding.

The Spectrum of Magickal Gifts

Like a spectrum of light, magickal gifts can take various forms – uncanny intuition, an affinity for divination, a deep bond with nature, a talent for healing, or a unique ability to manifest intentions.

Every gift is as unique as your soul’s blueprint.

Cultivating Your Gifts

Once identified, these gifts need nurturing and honing.

By acknowledging, accepting, and embracing them, we empower them to grow and strengthen, much like a seedling transforming into a majestic tree.

Incorporating Your Gifts into Your Magick

As you grow familiar with your magickal gifts, start weaving them into your magickal practice.

This alignment enhances your rituals and intentions, resonating with the Universe and amplifying their potency.

An Ongoing Journey

The labyrinth of self is an eternal journey, not a puzzle to be solved.

Embrace this exploration and evolution as an integral part of your magickal journey.

So, let’s toast to the wonderful adventure of uncovering and embracing our magickal gifts.

To the labyrinth within us, to the magick guiding us, and to the transformative power of self-awareness!

If you’re feeling ‘out of sorts’, try these grounding techniques

If you’re feeling ‘out of sorts’, try these grounding techniques

I’ve been speaking to quite a few people over the last couple of days who have been feeling out of sorts and just not quite feeling themselves.

So, I thought today would be the perfect time to remind you about some grounding techniques.

When you think of grounding think of the phrase ‘coming back to your senses’ – as that’s quite literally what you are doing.

‘Come back to your senses’

You are coming back to your senses so that you are ‘in’ your body and able to feel grounded and centred. And you’re also coming back to your senses in the fact that you can think more clearly and make the best choices for you.

When we’re not grounded and are ‘out of our senses’, we can make decisions that we end up regretting. We can be unduly influenced by those around us. We can make decisions from a place of shame, fear or judgment.

We don’t trust ourselves and can’t connect with our intuition.

So, let’s get you ‘back to your senses’!

Engage all of your senses

A quick and simple way to ground yourself is to engage all of your senses.

A beautiful way to do this is to get yourself into nature, go for a hike, walk barefoot on the grass, spend time with the trees.

But really anywhere will do, even sat at your office desk.

Spend some time noticing what you can hear, smell, feel, even taste.

Engage all of your senses and really pay attention to them.

Pick up a stone (or solid object) and hold it in your hand. Connect to the density and texture of it.

‘Shock’ your senses

One of the quickest ways you can ground your energy it to have a plunge pool or a cold shower – but that’s not always possible, so a quicker way is to bite into a large slice of lemon. That sharp, sour tastes brings you right back into your body!

Root Yourself

You could also image roots growing out the bottom of your feet, that reach deep down into the earth beneath you.

If you wanted more inspiration, I did a podcast episode on grounding a few months ago – in fact I think it has been my most popular one to date!

Magickal Self-Care Day 6 – Magickal Showers

Magickal Self-Care Day 6 – Magickal Showers

Welcome back to 12-days of Magickal Self-Care.

Today, on day 6,  we’re going to add some magick to your established morning routine with your bath or shower.

Adding some magick

I’m going to assume that each morning, or at least frequently you have a bath or a shower, so let’s add some magick and intention to this activity.

It’s something that you’re already doing, so you don’t have to worry about ‘adding’ anything extra to your routine, you’re just going to bring more focused awareness to this activity.

Washing away negativity

When you have your next shower, as you stand under the water imagine that it’s washing away any of the energetic debris that we explored yesterday.

Anything that’s not yours or energy that is not for your highest good is being washed away, and  then simply imagine it going down the plughole.

Activating what you want more of

Then think about what you’d like to experience more of in your day; peace, joy, love, vibrancy – what colour would you associate with that energy?

For example, you might associate green or blue with peace or red or orange with vibrancy. Now in the shower, image that the water has turned the colour you associated with what you wanted more of and allow yourself to be filled up with that colour and energy.

As you focus on what you want to experience more of, know that you attract more of that energy in, it’s like saying to the universe – ‘thank you, more please’.

Appreciating your body

Then as you wash your body in the shower, just slow down your experience as you take a moment to connect with each area of your body.

As you wash each body part thank it for all that it does for you.

As you wash your face, thank your senses for their ability to experience the world and the rich pleasure they bring you.

Thank your arms for all that they carry throughout the day and for thy can reach out for.

Thank your hands for all they give and receive and for all that they create.

Thank your legs for their strength and their ability to move you through life and your feet for being able to take a stand for what’s important to you.

Thank your belly for all it absorbs and how it nourishes you.

Thank your skin for giving you a boundary and defining your space in the world.

Really take some time to show gratitude and appreciation for your body.

Even if your body is a source of pain, thank your body for doing the best it can.

Words of affirmation

Then once out of the bath or shower, apply your favourite, oil, cream or lotion to your body, and as you do, take some time to gently feel and connect with your body.

Notice it’s curves, shape and texture.

As you feel your body, say something kind and loving to yourself.

Start to create a more caring, nourishing relationship with yourself.

It doesn’t matter if you love yourself completely or feel disconnected to your body, you can always improve your relationship.

As you touch your body you might want to say words of affirmation.

You could say ‘I love you’ or ‘I appreciate you’ – however if you don’t love or appreciate yourself, don’t feel guilty about it, instead change the affirmation to:

‘I am open to loving myself’, each day it becomes easier to love myself’.

‘I am open to appreciating myself’, ‘each day I find new things to appreciate about myself’.

By just slightly changing these affirmations, allows yourself to believe the affirmations rather than reject them.

Saying ‘I love myself’ when you don’t just affirms that you don’t actually love yourself, so focus on adding the changes about being open to loving yourself.

Next-level affirmations (that actually work)

Then one final part to this affirmation.

‘I am open to loving myself… and today I show this to myself by…’

Then insert something small that you will actually do to love yourself.

It could be:

Drink some water

Move or stretch your body

Book the Dr’s appointment you’ve been putting off

So as you’re touching your body and nourishing it with your favourite oil, lotion or cream you’re saying to yourself; ‘I am open to loving myself and today I show myself love by drinking more water.’

‘Each day I love myself more, and today I show myself love by dancing to my favourite songs.’

‘I appreciate my body more and more and today I show myself appreciation by going to bed early.’

Now, you’re not only changing your inner self-talk and affirming more love and compassion for yourself, you’re also proving it to yourself.

When you can prove your affirmations to yourself, by saying you’ll drink more water or go to bed early and you do drink more water and you do go to bed earlier – you start to believe yourself more.

Then you really start to believe that you do love and appreciate yourself and your relationship with yourself becomes stronger and deeper.

It becomes easier to get clear on your wants and needs and it becomes easier for you to prioritise yourself and your self-care.

Don’t forget to come and let us know how you found the practice over in our community.

And I’ll see you after Christmas for the next 6-days of our 12-days of magickal self-care. Have a fabulous holiday season!

Magickal Self-Care Day 5 – Energetic Alignment

Magickal Self-Care Day 5 – Energetic Alignment

Welcome back to 12-days of Magickal Self-Care.

Today, on day 5, I want to continue to focus on becoming present

Yesterday we looked at being present in your body using your senses, today we’re going to look at what it means to stay energetically present.

Your energetic health is essential

We often overlook the energetic aspect of us, but it’s essential.

People often talk about being in alignment, but think in terms of their actions aligning with their desire. But if it was that easy so many more people would be experiencing more of what they desire.

What they overlook is the energetic aspects of us. The part of us that stores memories and patterns. Because we can’t generally see it, it’s easier to ignore and yet you are influenced by it all the time.

We are energetic beings, we talk in terms of energy; I’m exhausted, burnt out and wired.

I cover this in more detail in my book Ditch the Doubt (available on Amazon), but here’s what you need to be aware of.

How your energy becomes confused ‘smog’

Every day, you’re in contact with people and the world.

You interact with family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and neighbours. You scroll through social media, watch the news and learn what’s going on politically. Perhaps you’ll experience conflict, or have uncomfortable conversations with others. You may have arguments or disagreements.

Regardless, every time someone comes and ‘offloads’ all their angst on you, you take it on in your energetic system. The same thing happens when they share their fears and concerns or ask your advice, or when you witness or experience a trauma or tragedy.

Additionally, we’re all constantly surrounded by judgements, negative opinions, disempowering thoughts, media and advertising, movies, shows and social media. And of course, most of us own all kinds of devices that encourage us to scroll excessively.

External judgements, ‘should’s and expectations affect you

On top of all this, the world bombards us with messages about who we should be, what we should do, how we should spend our time and what we should achieve and accomplish.
Together, all of these interactions and experiences immerse us in an ‘energetic smog’ of other people’s thoughts, feelings, fears, judgements and opinions.

And that smog can make it impossible to clearly see what belongs to you and what belongs to other people. This, in turn, can leave you uncertain about what you really want, and what you are and aren’t comfortable doing to make it happen.

I’m sure you’ve experienced the feeling of having a great day until someone who isn’t comes along, and all they want to do is moan. Then, after they leave, you just feel drained.

Or you watch a film, and even though you know it’s just a story, you still find yourself crying or angry at the injustice one of the characters experiences. Many years ago, I watched Into the Wild, which had such a sad ending that I physically felt ‘off’ for hours after the film finished.

This happens because every time we interact with someone or something – even if it’s fictional – we exchange energy with it, creating an energetic connection.

Some of those connections are tiny, with very little emotional charge. Perhaps someone held the door open for you and you said, “Thank you.”

The creation of energetic data cables constantly influence you

The energetic ‘cord’ from this kind of exchange would be less than the thickness of a single hair, and would naturally dissolve as the day went on. You might not even remember it a couple of days later.

But some energetic connections are far more substantial, and create a higher emotional charge. For example, if you’ve had a major disagreement with someone, the energetic exchange and the resulting connection will be much more significant.

Think of these energetic cords as massive data cables that send and receive information between you and the person you’re connected to.

Now, this kind of cord can be a positive thing. If someone loves and supports you, you can receive that love and support through your connection with them. However, the opposite is also true: people can project their fears and judgements along the cord, and you can pick up on them.

Signs of a negative influence

Some of the things you might notice if you’re experiencing this kind of unsupportive energetic exchange include:

  • doubting yourself
  • making a decision and then changing your mind
  • feeling like you’re taking three steps forwards and then stumbling two steps back

How to clear the overwhelm and confusion

Back when I first started my kinesiology training in 1999, the tutor recommended a particular Psychic Protection class. The teacher for that class described picking up on other people’s energy in this way:

“Imagine you’re a farmer who’s been out in the fields and mucking out the animals all day. When you come home in your muddy boots and dirty overalls, do you sit on the couch straight away? Of course not – that would be ridiculous! It would leave mud and muck all over your home, so it just doesn’t make sense. And your energetic health is the same way, except that you don’t see the mud.”

I wasn’t really into the idea of ‘psychic’ anything at the time, but I went along to the class anyway. And that training was probably some of the most valuable of my life because it started my interest in – and research into – energetic hygiene.

And gradually, as I learnt more about the topic, I became more aware of how other people interacted with my energy, and how I used my own energy with them. I grew more conscious about how I interacted with others, and started to take responsibility for how I showed up – not only in life, but in relationships too. I also learnt to take responsibility for my past decisions and actions, and take greater responsibility for my choices moving forward.

If I felt drained or depleted around certain people, I gradually learnt how to clear those feelings, and come back into my own energy. And with time, I even stopped allowing others to drain or deplete my energy. Instead, I began to quickly recognise that depletion was imminent, and ‘protect’ my energy by setting boundaries.

Prioritising your needs and self-care

Learning about energetic hygiene taught me to understand where my energy ended in the world, and where other people’s began. Whenever I noticed an intense emotion, I could quickly distinguish whether it was mine, or if I was picking it up from someone else or the collective energy around me.

And the techniques I learnt worked! Even after 20+ years of working energetically with thousands of clients, I never pick up anyone else’s ‘stuff’ now, much less keep it with me.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m highly intuitive, and have many ‘clairs’ (my word for a finely tuned sense that goes beyond the physical – think clairvoyance for clear-seeing, or clairaudience for clear-hearing). And I can still use my clairs appropriately when I want to.

But I always choose when, where and how I use these skills, which means they never overwhelm me.

Another part of avoiding overwhelm is routinely using the practice I’m about to share with you.  This practice will support you to make powerful choices, including ones that help you prioritise your needs and magickal self-care.

A practice to align your energy

Here’s a practice I want to share with you to keep your energy running smooth and clear.

It’s called the SACRED practice, and it helps you to get clear on what you want and need.

The SACRED framework

Taking a moment each morning to run through this practice will create a massive shift in your ability to make choices based on centred clarity, rather than fear and overwhelm.

You will understand the impact of your choices, including your own needs and self-care, on how you feel and connect with others throughout the day.

SACRED is an acronym (if you’ve been following me for a while you know I love an acronym!) for a six step process:

STRIP off all jewellery and crystals, and notice how your energy feels as it naturally flows through your body

ALIGN your energy by sending back anything that isn’t yours (picture a thread or cord, detaching from you and slithering back to whence it came) Come back to your centre and the present moment.

CONNECT to your Higher Self

ROOT into your miraculous body, here on our beautiful planet, imagine roots coming out of your feet and into the earth so you are grounded and present in the here and now

ENCIRCLE yourself with positive energy, a psychic boundary and protection

DECIDE what you want to experience in the coming day or week, and feel your energy drawing it towards you with powerful intentions and actions.

This is a beautiful way to start the day, and you will find every decision you’re faced with is easier to make now that your energy is clear and connected.

You can do this practice as often as you like, each time you do it you’ll become a little more connected to yourself and your own energy.

Don’t forget to come and let us know how you found the practice over in our community.

And I’ll see you tomorrow for day-6 where we’ll look at how you can add some practical, but magickal self-care to your established morning routine.

Magickal Self-Care Day 4 – Becoming Present

Magickal Self-Care Day 4 – Becoming Present

Welcome back to 12-days of Magickal Self-Care.

Today, day 4, I want to focus on becoming present

Yesterday we started to explore the importance of becoming present.

We talked about how to become present it was essential that you feel safe and we focused on feeling safe in your home.

Today I want to talk about being present and feeling safe in your body.

Because when we feel safe, we can be present, present in our body. Present to our own needs.

Being present is where you power lies

Being present, means being full of your own energy and needs, it means being whole – a whole person, not just a shell of yourself. And as I mentioned yesterday, this presence, this wholeness is where you power lies.

The power to prioritise yourself. To say ‘yes’ and ‘no’ with confidence. To say what you mean and ask for what you want. Presence allows you to make the right choices for yourself.

Presence allows you to become more of yourself.

And the world is a richer more beautiful place when you, and all of the other 7.9 billion people we share the world with, can show up in their full ness.

Being you, free from judgement and expectation

Presence requires that you accept and even celebrate who you are, all that you are. Free from judgements and expectations.

It’s about accepting who you are, who you were and who you’re becoming.

And being able to stay present, centred and grounded in your truth every day is something that needs your conscious attention.

I’m sure you’ve encountered people that just have that something about them.

They walk into a room, and you’re drawn to them.

They might not be the most beautiful or attractive person, but something about them holds your attention.

That’s presence.

Presence brings with it a magnetism that radiates from a person that is happy in their own skin. Confident in who they are.

It doesn’t mean they’re perfect, never fail or don’t occasionally doubt themselves. But they are grounded in themselves knowing their strengths and supporting themselves in all areas of their life.

Perhaps you’ve had a conversation with someone who is really present. It’s a beautiful thing. To know that person is completely present and really hears you. Rather than having a conversation with someone who is distracted, trying to talk over you, finish your sentences, or who has already moved on, and are just their physically.

It’s easy not to be present.

Being productive just means you have more to do

With more and more pressures on your time, energy and resources, growing to-do lists and the expectations of those around you.

The more productive you try and become, the better you try and manage your time, the more you seem to be expected to do.

Fretting about past actions, worrying about what the future holds, wondering how you can fit it all in without making the mistakes of the past, leaves us living in the past or leaning into the future. Neither of which gives us presence.

To be present requires that you are full of your own essence, thoughts, values, dreams and desire.

You need to be ‘full of yourself’

It’s about becoming ‘full of yourself’.

Here in the UK, saying that someone’s ‘full of themselves’ is usually a criticism.

I have a very different take on the matter. As far as I’m concerned:

YOU NEED TO BE FULL OF YOURSELF!

Now, when you read that sentence, you might find yourself reacting and judging me.

Of course you might.

Because, regardless of where you live now, you were probably encouraged to stay small from the time you were a young child. On top of this, depending on where you grew up, you might have been told:

    • not to get too big for your boots (in the UK)
    • not to act above your station (in Ireland)
    • not to get too big for your britches (in the US)
    • not to be the tall poppy (in Australia or New Zealand)

No doubt every country has some kind of similar saying that encourages people to play small – to be accommodating and selfless.

Not a shell of yourself

‘Selfless’ – I really hate that word! People say it as if it’s some kind of virtue… but really, why on earth would you celebrate not having a self?!

Surely, it’s the very act of being yourself – your whole self – that makes you the incredible person that you are? How can you be the fully self-expressed person you have the potential to be if you have no self to express?

We can often celebrate the people, often woman, who are ‘so selfless’. The ones that can be relied on to help out at the schools, ferrying the children around to friends, clubs or sports matches, baking cakes for the bake sale, looking after aging parents, checking in on the neighbours, always there when a friend needs them and working a full-time job.

Forgetting your own needs and desire

Yes, they are selfless, they’re in fact so self-less that they’ve forgotten they have their own needs, they have lost their boundaries and can no longer say ‘no’.

The person is celebrated for being self-less, when in fact they’re exhausted and disconnected from any desire they have for themselves, as they just try and make it through the day without losing their shit.

Now, being ‘full of yourself’ doesn’t mean becoming a horrible narcissist who never cares about anyone else. Nor does it mean that you think you’re the ONLY one who deserves to have their needs met. But it does mean that you become discerning about meeting your own needs, and about how you choose to use your time, energy and resources.

Being full of your own energy also means you get used to prioritising your own needs over the expectations and comfort of other people. Of course, sometimes you’ll compromise. Sometimes you will put others first, but when you do it, you’ll do it consciously. It will be your choice as an exception, rather than the default expectation.

Another reason to be ‘full of yourself’ is that if you’re not full of your own hopes and dreams, you leave empty space in your energetic body. And since nature abhors a vacuum… that space is where other people’s energetic judgements and expectations will slip in.

I’ve been a kinesiologist for the last 20+ years, and worked with thousands of women over that time. And I’ve noticed that women who try to be ‘selfless’ almost never believe in or trust themselves. How can they, when they’re trying so hard not to have a self to believe in or trust? With that loss of belief comes a disconnection from their dreams, desires and inner power.

This then muddies the waters of what they want for themselves. Their vision for their ideal life is blurred by everyone else’s energy and desires.

So, even if it doesn’t feel comfortable right now, you need to give yourself permission to become full of yourself. Give yourself permission to take up space with ALL of you: your thoughts, feelings, dreams, desires and physicality.

Of course, you probably won’t become ‘full of yourself’ overnight. But you might gradually start to notice the places where you aren’t full of your own hopes, dreams and desires – and that’s a powerful start.

Focus on your senses

To start to become full of yourself focus on your senses.

Your senses demand that you are in your body to experience them.

Right now, notice:

What you can see around you?

What can you hear?

What can you feel?

What can you smell?

What can you taste?

It steps you out of thinking about the past, or dreaming about the future and puts you right here, in your body in the present.

Do this regularly throughout the day, just as a mini check-in with yourself, a mini sacred pause in your day when you come back to your own centre, present and aware of your own fullness.

It’s like taking a huge sigh, it resets your system as you become present.

Your senses require you get present

There’s a reason when people are having panic attacks, one piece of advice is to name 5 things you can see, 3 things you can touch and two things you can hear. It brings you back into your body and into the present moment.

Here’s a morning routine for you to try – but in fact you can do it anytime throughout your day as it’s just about bringing conscious attention to your senses.

A sensory experience

In the morning when you wake up, before checking your phone, stretch your arms above your head and feel your body stretch and move.

Place your hands on your heart, close your eyes and take a deep breath in and exhale fully.

Notice the quality of your breath, how deep you can inhale and the sound and force of the exhale.

Then open your curtains and notice what you can see. Notice the colours or any changes that have occurred overnight. What’s the sky like, can you see any birds, animals or people?

Next open the windows and feel the air on your skin. Is it warm or cold? Perhaps it’s a crisp morning, or the sun is starting a warm glow on your skin, or perhaps the wind and rain are whipping around.

Next light some incense or do something that activates your sense of smell, and really enjoy the aroma of whatever you’re inhaling; coffee, perfume, essential oils.

Put on your favourite music or just sit quietly and notice what you can hear. Perhaps it’s something in your home, or something off in the distance.

Using your senses intentionally this way requires that you become present.

And just like any skill, the more we can practice becoming present the easier it becomes.

And as we’ve explored the more you can become present, the more you become aware of your own needs and what you want.

The more you become present you start to notice how the people, events, habits actually impact you.

You’ll start to notice what fills you up and what drains you.

You’ll recognise when you can do more and when you want to stop.

Being present puts you back in the driver seat of your life, instead of being at the mercy of being bombarded with the judgments, wants and expectations of those around you.

So just notice, how connected to your senses do you feel today?

Don’t forget to come and let us know what you’re focusing on over in our community.

And I’ll see you tomorrow for day-5 where I’ll walk you through a practice that will ground you in your energy and bring you back to your own centre – it’s particularly good if you find yourself impacted by the opinions and moods of those around you.
